BIG WHOOPS . HOT RENO . THE BUZZING TOWERS . VENICE ON FIRE
8pm | MAIN STAGE
4 of southeast Queensland’s most exciting alternative rock acts will raise money for bushfire and wildlife recovery services across three shows in March.
GOOD mates Venice on Fire, Big Whoops, Hot Reno and The Buzzing Towers hope to raise more than $1000 for both the Rural Fire Service Queensland and Warriors 4 Wildlife at special charity shows in Brisbane, Toowoomba and the Sunshine Coast next month.
Venice on Fire singer and guitarist Tom Gillespie said the concept was devised after the bands witnessed the destruction of Australia’s bushfire season, which has killed 33 people, destroyed thousands of properties and wiped out a billion native animals.
“This bushfire season is easily the worst on record, and it has devastated communities across at least five states,” he said.
“The true cost of losing more than 11 million hectares of bushland and hundreds of millions of animals will be felt for years".
“Through all of this, we’ve also witnessed the bravery of rural firefighters to put their lives on the line and protect their communities".
“So we thought we’d do our part to raise funds for both the Rural Fire Service Queensland and Warriors 4 Wildlife”.
Hot Reno frontman Harley Jones said he was ecstatic for the shows, which will be held at Bar Wunder in Toowoomba, Solbar on the Sunshine Coast and Greaser Bar in Brisbane.
“We are super keen for this tour as it’s with a bunch of mates, and for an amazing cause,” he said.
“We can’t wait to get out of our hometown and show some different regions what we’ve got”.
Big Whoops guitarist Zane Nichol said the bands felt wildlife rehabilitation services and bushfire first responders were the most deserving of extra funds.
“We’re really excited to support some impactful charities that are diligently helping our communities through volunteered support; these teams provide support on the frontlines of the disaster where we are unable to be,” he said.
“Being able to provide financial aid through methods of localised fundraisers is our most solicitous expression to those in need”.
The Buzzing Towers guitarist Zac Robertson said the bands would have pre-sales for the Sunshine Coast and Toowoomba shows, while all acts would donate their fees for the free show in Brisbane.
“Everything from the poster artwork, venue bookings and PR has all been achieved on the backs each band alone, in that we all share the do-it-yourself ethos that makes these up and coming shows even more special,” he said.
“There is a strong sense of community and camaraderie amongst us and we are very excited to share the upcoming dates with the punters who want to get behind local independent music and support our firefighters and wildlife".
